Jeffs Capture 2014 Nor'Easter Bowl Championship

QUARTERFINAL/SEMIFINAL RECAP

Wellesley, Mass. – The fourth-ranked Amherst women's tennis team extended its win streak to six matches with a 9-0 sweep of No. 17 Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the championship game of the 2014 Nor'easter Bowl hosted by Wellesley College.

Improving to 8-2 on the season, the Jeffs have dropped just four points during their current win streak, having earned 9-0 victories in four of their last six outings. Amherst returns to action on Friday, Apr. 11 at Bowdoin.

Headlining the Purple & White's doubles pairings, Jordan Brewer '14 and Gabby Devlin '14 improved to 3-0 on the weekend thanks to an 8-2 decision over Lauren Quisenberry '14 and Julia Hsu '14. Jen Newman '14 and Zoe Pangalos '14 edged out Elysa Kohrs '17 and Victoria Tam '16 in the second slot, 9-7, while Sarah Monteagudo '16 and Safi Aly '15 posted an 8-3 victory over Michelle Dutt '15 and Krystal Lai '17.

In singles action, Brewer made quick work of Kohrs, dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph. Devlin tripped up Wendi Kong '17, 6-1, 7-5, while Newman dispatched of Sunnie Lampl '16, 6-1, 6-0. Sue Ghosh '15 turned away Lai, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1), while Pangalos outlasted Hsu in the day's only three-set match, 6-2, 2-6, 10-6. Monteagudo wrapped up play at the bottom of the Jeff order with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Vynnie Kong '15.
