Women's Tennis Blanks Trinity, 9-0

HARTFORD, Conn. - The third-ranked Amherst women's tennis team improved to 2-1 in NESCAC play with a 9-0 victory over Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.

Winners of five of their last six matches, the Jeffs moved to 9-3 overall on the season, while the Bantams fell to 7-4 (3-2 NESCAC) on the year.

Gabby Devlin '14 (McLean, Va.) and Laura Danzig '12 (Allendale, N.Y.) got Amherst off to a good start with an 8-3 win over Trinity's Hillary Hoyt '13 and Senzo Muave-Maphisa '12 at first doubles, while Zoe Pangalos '14 (New York, N.Y.) and Jennifer Newman '14 (Haverford, Pa.) defeated Frances Cameron '13 and Kelsey Semrod '12, 8-2. Caroline Richman '13 (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) and Safi Aly '15 (Edmond, Okla.) rounded out doubles action by defeating Alexandra Criss '15 and Elizabeth Gerber '14, 8-1, while Danzig headlined singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Hoyt.

Newman edged out Mauve-Maphisa, 6-0, 7-5 at second singles, while Richman scored a pair of 6-1 victories over Semrod. Pangalos defeated Gerber, 6-3, 6-1 at fourth singles, while Aly turned down Cameron, 6-4, 6-1. Kimberly Snyder '12 (Newton, Mass.) held her own at the bottom of the Jeff order with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Caroline Gagne '14.

Amherst returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 21 against Bowdoin.
