Jeffs Open Nor'Easter Bowl with 9-0 Win

AMHERST, Mass. – The third-ranked Amherst College women's tennis team kicked off the three-day Nor'Easter Bowl at Wellesley College by posting a 9-0 win over University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez on Friday.

As the top seed in the eight-team tournament, the Lord Jeffs (5-2) will take on fifth-seeded Skidmore College—ranked 24th in Division III—tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Amherst's No. 2 doubles team of Gabby Devlin '14 and Safi Aly '15 matched the impressive performance put in by the No. 3 tandem of Isabel Camacho '14 and Kim Snyder '12, as each pair cruised to an 8-0 victory. Sophomores Zoe Pangalos and Jen Newman nearly made it a perfect sweep in doubles action, earning an 8-1 win in the No. 1 matchup.

The Lord Jeffs carried that momentum into singles play, where Jordan Brewer '14, Newman and Caroline Richman '14 posted 6-0, 6-0 victories at numbers one, three and four, respectively. Laura Danzig '12 took her first set by a 6-0 margin at number two, and she would follow with a 6-1 win in the second set. Snyder surrendered only three games in the fifth spot (6-1, 6-2), while Camacho earned an 8-1 win at number six.
