Amherst Earns 6-3 Win at Concordia-Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – The second-ranked Amherst College women's tennis team improved to 2-0 on its spring break trip with a 6-3 win over Concordia University-Irvine on Wednesday. The Lord Jeffs improve to 2-1 overall on the season, while the Eagles drop to 8-4 after having their win streak snapped at four.  

Irvine's top two players stood out for the hosts, as Bettina Radke and Jordan Kimura earned an 8-3 win over Amherst's Laura Danzig '12 and Jordan Brewer '14 in the No. 1 doubles bout. Radke then defeated Brewer in the top singles matchup (7-5, 6-2), while Kimura beat Danzig in straight sets (6-0, 6-1). 

Sophomores Zoe Pangalos and Jennifer Newman teamed up for an 8-5 win in the number two doubles match. Newman followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, with Pangalos adding a 7-6(4), 6-2 victory in the fifth spot. 

Caroline Richman '14 cruised in her 6-1, 6-1 win at number four singles, while first-year Safi Aly was even more dominant in her straight-set result in the sixth matchup (6-0, 6-1). Richman also joined sophomore Gabby Devlin in No. 3 doubles play, as the two Lord Jeffs came out on the winning end of an 8-3 finish. 

The Lord Jeffs will return to action this Friday to take on Cal State Fullerton.
