Women's Tennis Tops #13 Tufts, 7-2

AMHERST, Mass. - The third-ranked Amherst women's tennis team picked up its third-consecutive win with a 7-2 victory over #13 Tufts University on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Lord Jeffs improved to 11-3 overall and 4-1 in league play, while the Jumbos fell to 7-8 (3-3 NESCAC) on the year.

Laura Danzig '12 (Allendale, N.Y.) and Gabby Devlin '14 (McLean, Va.) led Amherst in doubles action, earning an 8-2 decision over Lindsay Katz '13 and Shelci Bowman '14 in the top slot, while Zoe Pangalos '14 (New York, N.Y.) and Jennifer Newman '14 (Haverford, Pa.) upended Samantha Gann '14 and Janice Lam '13, 8-2. Caroline Richman '13 (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) and Safi Aly '15 (Edmond, Okla.) rounded out the Jeffs' doubles pairings, securing an 8-3 win over Sophie Schonfeld '15 and Rebecca Kimmel '14. 

Danzig headlined singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Katz, while Newman bested Schonfeld, 6-2, 6-3. Richman earned a pair of 6-1 victories over Bowman, while Gann notched one of two Tufts points with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Pangalos at fourth singles. 

Aly outlasted Kimmel 6-3, 7-6, in the five spot, while Nathalie Schils '12 held her own at the bottom of the Jumbo order, downing Kimberly Snyder '12 (Newton, Mass.), 6-2, 6-2.

Amherst returns to action on Sunday, Apr. 29, when it plays host to Wesleyan.
