Amherst's Raverta Named NESCAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year

May 9, 2006

AMHERST, MA – Amherst College senior tri-captain Kristen Raverta (W. Springfield, MA) was named the 2006 NESCAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year on Tuesday.  Raverta guided Amherst to its third consecutive conference crown as the Jeffs bested Williams, 6-3, in the NESCAC Tournament Championship Match.

This marks the second year in a row that an Amherst player was named Player of the Year; Raverta follows in the footsteps of Rachel Holt '05, who was tabbed last spring.  Raverta also earned first-team all-conference honors for the fourth consecutive season, after posting a 17-2 record on the year.  She and doubles partner sophomore Alicia Menezes (Staten Island, NY) also received All-NESCAC First-Team recognition, and Menezes was named to the second-team all-conference in singles play.

Amherst defeated Bowdoin College in the NCAA Northeast Regional Final to advance to the national quarterfinals for the ninth consecutive year.  The Jeffs will face Trinity College (TX) on May 17, with the winner moving on to meet the winner of Emory/Gustavus Adolphus in the national semifinals.
