AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College women's tennis team finished second to NESCAC rival Williams College at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, held at Amherst on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Sophomore Kristen Raverta (W. Springfield, MA) posted the lone singles-flight championship for the Jeffs, and teamed with senior captain Wallis Molchen (Wilmington, DE) for the flight-three doubles crown.
Raverta defeated Alexandria Maclennan of Williams 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 in the flight-three singles final, and she and Molchen squeaked by Middlebury's Kristen Baker and Claire Smyser in a thrilling 9-8 match. Three other Lord Jeffs reached the final match in their respective singles flights, but all fell to Williams opponents. Junior Rachel Holt (New York, NY) fell to Stephanie Hall 6-3, 6-2 in the flight-one final, sophomore Hadley Miller (Lancaster, PA) was downed by Courtney Bartlett 6-2, 6-0 in the flight-five final and first-year Katie Hudson (Los Altos, CA) dropped a 6-1, 6-2 match to Caroline Wasserman in the flight-six final. Also playing well for Amherst was junior Tristan Hedrick (Walnut Creek, CA), who reached the flight-two semifinals before falling to eventual winner Caroline Tien of MIT, and Molchen, who advanced to the flight-four semifinals before bowing to eventual winner Kate Troy of Williams. Holt and Hedrick teamed to reach the flight-one doubles final, but fell to Troy and Hall of Williams 8-0.
