Jeffs in Action at Rolex New Englands

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - Sophomore Susanna Burke (St. Louis, MO) was the Jeffs top-finisher, advancing to the third-round of the singles draw, as the Amherst College women's tennis team competed at the Rolex New England Division III Championships at Williams College on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 

Burke, who drew a bye past the first-round, defeated Sara Duch of Montclair State 6-0, 6-1, then lost to Tina Howe of Williams 6-3, 6-4. She also teamed with classmate Roopali Agarwal (Boxford, MA) to defeat Bowdoin's Shelly Bawden and Jennie Hayes 9-8, before falling to top-seeded Kelly Kuskelin and Victoria Davis of M.I.T. 8-5 in the second round. 

Elsewhere in the singles draw, Agarwal defeated Penny Hope of Mount Holyoke 6-1, 6-2, then lost to Diane Goldman of Trinity 6-7 (5), 6-3, 2-0 (ret.). Newcomer Wallis Molchen (Wilmington, DE) also defeated Sally Daly of Bates 6-1, 6-2, before falling to Sanida Kikic of Bowdoin 6-4, 6-2. 

The Jeffs return to action this Sunday at Bowdoin College at 9:30 a.m.
