Jeffs Top Williams 6-3

AMHERST, MA - Senior Jamie Cohen (Rye, NY) and sophomore Paige Lawrence (Katy, TX) led Amherst College to a 6-3 team victory over visiting NESCAC rival Williams College on Saturday. Cohen won her singles match over Selma Kikic 6-1, 7-4 and later teamed with Lawrence to top Stephanie Hall and Caroline Wasserman 8-5 in doubles. Lawrence also won her singles match 6-2, 6-1 over Allison Swain. 

Elsewhere in the singles draw, number-two seed Susanna Burke (St. Louis, MO) downed Tracey Cheung 6-2, 6-0, senior Carolyn Pastel (Old Lyme, CT) lost to Tina Howe 6-4, 6-4, junior Stephanie Fong (Los Altos, CA) fell to Kate Troy 7-5, 6-3 and junior Heather Cole beat Allison Swain 6-2, 6-1. 

In the two remaining doubles matches, Amherst's Fong and Cole lost to Kikic and Cheung 8-5, while Burke and Pastel topped Swain and Howe 8-5. 

Amherst won its sixth team-match of the fall against just one defeat, losing only to Division I power UMass-Amherst earlier in the season. The Jeffs host the New England Championships this Friday through Sunday.
