Amherst will look to improve upon a good thing in 1998-99 after graduating only one player from its Final Four team. Leading the nationally ranked Jeffs will be senior captains Pam Diamond, Neely Steinberg and Sam Toerge; these three veterans have been to three national championships, won three Little III Titles and three New England Championships. Joining the tri-captains will be ITA Rookie of the Year, Jamie Cohen.
Amherst enters the 1998-99 season as three-time
Little Three Titlists, defending New England Champions
and as the No. 1 team in the East
Fellow sophomores Carolyn Pastel, Patti Jo and Alison Comfort will also return. Pastel was a New England Champion at No. 6 singles and won the Rolex Doubles Championship with partner Cohen. Lone junior and Sportsmanship Award winner Kristen Ogdon will also be on board to provide leadership and depth. An extremely talented freshman class will join the team in 1998 with the matriculation of Lori Mahoney (McLean, VA), Stephanie Fong (Los Altos Hills, CA), Vassilissa Kozoulina (New York, NY), Heather Cole (Pikesville, MD), Dana Bazelon (Philadelphia, PA) and Sanwaree Sethi (McLean, VA).
