SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior Emily Hyde won three individual events to lead the Amherst College women's swimming & diving team to their fourth consecutive victory, 184-111, over Union College Saturday afternoon.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Purple & White won 12 total events en route to securing the victory.
  • Amherst swept five events, claiming the top-three spots in the 100 yard backstroke, 100 yard breaststroke, 200 yard breaststroke, 500 yard freestyle, and 100 yard IM.
  • Stephanie Moriarty '18, Victoria Chao '18, Sarah Conklin '16, and Zoe Pappas '19 took first in the 200 yard medley relay (1:53.05), narrowly out-swimming Destin Groff '17, Hannah Hummel '16, Geralyn Lam '18, Dorit Song '19 who placed second (1:53.36).
  • Livia Domenig '19 and Jayne Vogelzang '19 finished back-to-back in the 1000 yard freestyle, claiming first and second with times of 10:55.43 and 11:17.18, respectively.
  • Hyde was the only Purple & White swimmer to place in the top-thee in the 200 yard freestyle, just beating out Union's Christina Belforti (1:57.46) to earn first with a time of 1:57.34.
  • Moriarty and Groff claimed first and third in the 100 yard backstroke with times of 1:01.23 and 1:03.67, respectively.
  • Dorit, Hummel and Chao swept the 100 yard breaststroke with times of 1:10.29, 1:10.63, and 1:12.20, respectively.  
  • Conklin (25.43) and Pappas (25.50) finished second and third in the 50 yard freestyle, narrowly behind winner Heather Wright (25.23).
  • First-year Jacqueline Palermo claimed second in both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events with scores of 194.10 and 206.54.
  • Hyde and Pappas finished back-to-back in the 100 yard freestyle, earning first and second with times of 53.90 and 54.84, respectively.
  • Hummel (2:30.52), Dorit (2:30.87) and Chao (2:40.20) swept the 200 yard breaststroke, Sarah Wishloff '19 (5:17.51), Chudy (5:18.33), and Domenig (5:20.25) took the top-three spots in the 500 yard freestyle, and Hyde (1:01.02), Lam (1:02.53), and Song (1:02.69) swept the 100 yard IM event.
  • The only Purple & White swimmer in the top-three, Lam earned an individual win in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 59.09.
  • Bridgitte Kwong '19 placed second in the 200 yard backstroke with mark of 2:10.38.
  • The squad of Pappas, Domenig, Groff, and Conklin earned first in the 200 yard relay (1:40.78), while Kim Hope '19, Wishloff, Kwong, and Chudy took third.
