MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Emily Hyde '16 glided to a new meet record in the 200-yard breaststroke on day three to help the Amherst College women's swimming & diving team secure a fourth place finish at the 2015 NESCAC Championships hosted by Wesleyan University.
The Jeffs, who totaled 1042 points, finished fourth behind overall winner Williams College (2103.5). Bates College (1345) and Middlebury College (1203) finished ahead of the fourth place Purple & White.
Hyde continued her excellence in the pool, powering to a meet record an, NCAA 'B' cut time, and first place mark of 2:16.61 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Classmate Hannah Hummel finished shortly behind Hyde with a time of 2:21.07 (NCAA 'B' cut) and tabbed fourth place in the event.
Charlotte Chudy '16 placed seventh in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:30.49, while first-year Marie Maxwell notched 14th place honors with a time of 17:54.59. Chudy's time was good enough to earn her an NCAA 'B' cut.
In the 100-yard freestyle, senior co-captain Ashleigh Stoddart clocked an NCAA 'B' cut time of 52.01 to place third, while Sarah Conklin '16 powered to a second place time of 2:04.36 in the 200-yard butterfly which was also good enough for an NCAA 'B' cut.
The combination of Hyde, Stephanie Ternullo '15, co-captain Sabrina Lee '15 and Stoddart glided to an NCAA 'B' cut time of 3:30.03 to place fifth in the 400-yard free style relay.
Amherst returns to action on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28 at the NCAA Regionals.
