AMHERST, Mass. – Winning in straight sets during eight of the nine matches, No. 16 Amherst women's squash completed their regular season campaign with an 8-1 win over Mount Holyoke College on Tuesday afternoon at Davenport Squash Center.
The Mammoths' enter postseason action with a record of 10-4, while the Lyons drop to 2-13 overall. Amherst will take the courts again when they compete this weekend in the 2020 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship. Mount Holyoke has a few more dual matches on the season tab and will face Smith College in their next outing.
The Mammoths' were dominant in each of their eight matches won, holding their respective opponents to three points or less in every set. Winning in impressive fashion, Lauren Weil '23 held her opponent to just one single point in all three sets combined to claim the 11-0, 11-1, 11-0 win.
Refusing to let Genesis Lara Granados score in the second set, Riddhi Sampat '21 cruised past Granados 11-2, 11-0, 11-2 before Pierson Klein '20 limited Nicole Lara Granados to one point in each set (11-1, 11-1, 11-1).
Capping off the day, Keeley Osborn '22 made short work of Elba Barra Montgomery with an 11-1, 11-2, 11-0 decision at #9.
The only result in favor of the Lyons came at the top of the ladder when Mihiliya Kalahe Arachchige relied on early set wins to ease past Daksha Pathak '23 by a score of 11-9, 12-10, 6-11, 11-6.
