CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The defending Walker Cup champions, Amherst College moved into the Kurtz Cup bracket this year, but the Mammoths were stopped by top-ranked Drexel University on Friday evening in the quarterfinals at Harvard University.
The Mammoths fall to 11-7 on the season with the 9-0 defeat, and will move to the consolation bracket to play George Washington University on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
Drexel (9-8) did not drop a set throughout the lineup. The Dragons will play against Brown University in tomorrow's semifinals at 5:15.
Kim Krayacich '18 was beaten by Anna Hughes 11-4, 11-4, 11-7 at number one, while at #2, Haley McAtee '18 fell to Hayley Hughes 11-6, 11-5, 11-0, one of two shutouts posted by the Dragons.
The other came at #4 spot, where Ona Prokes beat Riddhi Sampat '21 11-1, 11-2, 11-0.
Margaret Werner '21 nearly nabbed a set for the Mammoths, but settled for an 11-1, 12-10, 11-8 defeat to Apoorva Addepalli at the eighth position.
Rounding out the sweep for Drexel was an 11-3, 11-3, 11-6 win for Fiona Power over Madison Chen '21, an 11-2, 11-3, 11-6 victory for Stephanie Ryan over #7 Katy Correia '20, and an 11-3, 11-8, 11-5 win by Emma Macgillivray over Amherst's #9 player Pierson Klein '20.
