Mammoths Beat Tufts 7-2 for First Win of 2017-18

AMHERST, Mass. -- Amherst College bested visiting Tufts University 7-2 on Friday night at Davenport Courts to open their 2017-18 season.

Riddhi Sampat '21 won a five set thriller at the top spot to get Amherst off on the right foot. Sampat came back from a first set defeat to win 5-11, 11-7, 11-4, 7-11, 11-8.

It was easier sledding at #2 for Rachael Ang '19, who won in straight sets, though it took bonus points in two of the three games (15-13, 11-4, 16-14).

Madison Chen '21 took the fourth position with straight sets as well, as did Caroline Conway '20, who won 11-2, 11-6, and 11-9.

Margaret Werner '21 won easily (11-3, 11-7, 11-3) at number seven, Jenna Finkelstein '20 won 11-9, 13-11, 11-5 at the eighth spot, and Katy Sabina Correia '20 held her opponent to four points in three straight games to take #9 singles.

The Mammoths (1-0) will be back on their home courts at 1:00 pm on Saturday as they face off against Boston University.
