AMHERST, Mass. – The top-seeded Trinity College women's squash team secured its 11th straight NESCAC championship following a 9-0 win over No. 2 Williams College Sunday afternoon at the Davenport Squash Courts on the campus of tournament host Amherst College.
Trinity earned its 11th straight title sweeping courts one through eight, and used a 3-2 win on court nine to seal the match. Williams has finished second for the eighth time, and third time in the last three years after falling to the Bantams, 9-0 in both 2015 and 2016.
In the third place match, No. 4 Bates edged No. 3 Middlebury, 5-4 as the Bobcats picked up wins on courts two through six, including five-set thrillers on courts three, four, five and six. The Panthers swept courts one and seven, and picked up 3-1 victories on courts eight and nine.
In the fifth place match, No. 5 Amherst defeated No. 7 Bowdoin, 5-4 on the strength of 3-0 sweeps on courts one, six, seven, eight, and nine.
The seventh place match featured No. 9 Colby and No. 6 Tufts with the Mules notching a 7-2 upset of the Jumbos in thrilling fashion. Colby earned five-set victories on courts one, three, six, and seven to help secure the win.
