No. 17 Amherst Splits with No. 23 Hamilton, No. 13 Franklin & Marshall

AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 17 Amherst College women's squash team earned a 9-0 victory over No. 23 Hamilton College, but suffered a heartbreaking, 5-4 loss to No. 13 Franklin & Marshall during Saturday's Pioneer Valley Invitational at the Davenport Squash Courts.

With the split Amherst moves to 4-4 on the season. The Purple & White return to Pioneer Valley Invitational action Sunday, Jan. 22 when they host No. 16 Bates College at 9 a.m. and No. 26 Colby College at 3 p.m. at the Davenport Squash Courts.

Against Hamilton, Amherst swept courts one, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and nine, as Kimberly Krayacich '18, Priya Sinha '19, Haley McAtee '18, Katy Sabina Correia '20, Jenna Finkelstein '20, Jenni Bown '20, and Emma Crowe '19 each earned straight set victories.

On court two, Rachael Ang '19 posted an 11-9, 11-1, 9-11, 11-0 win, while Caroline Conway '20 logged an 11-9, 8-11, 11-3, 11-8 win on court five. In the exhibition 10th slot, Mae Cromwell '18 downed her opponent, 11-1, 11-3, 9-11, 11-7.

In the Purple & White's loss to Franklin & Marshall, Conway earned a five-set win in the fifth position, topping her opponent, 14-16, 11-5, 9-11, 11-4, 11-6. On court six, Correia earned a thrilling, comeback win, 5-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-6, while Finkelstein swept the seventh court, 11-2, 11-5, 11-3. Crowe added an 11-6, 11-4, 11-6 sweep in the ninth slot, while Cromwell once again earned a win in the 10th spot, 11-2, 11-1, 11-4.  

Franklin & Marshall swept courts one through four and Melissa Epstein edged Bown, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 on court eight.
