No. 17 Women’s Squash Downs Smith, 9-0

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The No. 17 Amherst College women's squash team began its 2016-17 campaign with a 9-0 sweep of Smith College Wednesday evening in Northampton, Mass.

With the win, Amherst improves to 1-0 on the season, and returns to action Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 when it hosts No. 6 Yale University at 2 p.m. at the Davenport Squash Courts in its home opener.

Amherst swept all nine matches in its opening contest of the season. Rachael Ang '19 earned an 11-3, 11-0, 11-0 win from the first position, while Caroline Conway '20 won 11-1, 11-0, 11-3 from the second slot. On the third court, Priya Sinha '19 posted a win of 11-1, 11-1, 11-2, while Katy Sabina Correia '20 secured a 11-1, 11-0, 11-1 win on court four.

Jenna Finkelstein '20 added a win from the fifth position (11-3, 11-5, 11-1), while Mae Cromwell '18 earned an 11-2, 11-1, 11-1 from the sixth court. Izzy Derber '17 clinched an 11-1, 11-3, 11-2 victory from the seventh position, Jenni Bown '20 won 11-0, 11-0, 11-0 from the eighth position, and Emma Crowe '19 logged an 11-0, 11-2, 11-0 win on court nine to secure the sweep.
