Amherst Edged by Bates, 5-4 in Walker Cup Final

AMHERST, Mass. - The No. 17 Amherst College women's squash team was edged, 5-4 by No. 19 Bates College in the Walker Cup (C Division) College Squash Association (CSA) Women's National Team Championship final Sunday morning at Yale University.

Amherst, which has won the last two Walker Cup titles (2014 and 2015), moves to 11-6 overall this season, while Bates improves to 12-10 with its Walker Cup victory.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

  • Bates earned victories from the first four positions, including a five-set thriller that saw Haley McAtee '18 fall just short to Emma Dunn from the third slot (11-5, 11-8, 6-11, 7-11, 11-7).
  • Amherst picekd up wins through Taryn Clary '16 who posted a 3-2 (11-4, 13-15, 11-7, 8-11, 11-3) win on the fifth court, while Priya Sinha '19 and Khushy Aggarwal '16 each swept their opponents from the sixth and seventh positions.
  • The Bobcats earned a 3-0 victory from the eighth slot to help seal the win, while the Purple & White used a sweep by Mae Cromwell '18 (11-9, 11-4, 11-2) to close out the four victories for Amherst.
