No. 16 Amherst Finishes 1-1 in First Day of Pioneer Valley Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 16 Amherst College women's squash team fell to No. 4 Yale, 9-0, before picking up a 7-2 victory over NESCAC rival and No. 19 Hamilton College Friday afternoon at the Davenport Squash Courts.

MATCH ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Taryn Clary '16 was a bright spot for the Purple & White in its matchup with Yale, going up 1-0, and earning Amherst's only game win of the contest, with a 13-11 victory over Jocelyn Lehman, before dropping the next three matches 7-11, 2-11, 1-11.

MATCH TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Amherst claimed seven matches, including five 3-0 sweeps, on courts No. 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.  
  • First-year Rachael Ang defeated Lindsay Arader at the No. 2 spot in a 3-0 sweep. Ang won by scores of 11-8, 11-4, and 11-2.
  • Courts No. 3 and 5 also featured sweeps with Haley McAtee '18 downing Lilly Simprian 11-6, 11-2, and 11-7, and Priya Sinha '19 defeating Grace Munschawer 12-10, 12-10, and 11-3.
  • After going up 1-0 with a 21-19 victory over Megan Grip, Khushy Agarwal '16 dropped the next game 10-12 before rattling off two more wins, 12-10 and 11-2, to take the match, 3-1.
  • Senior Taryn Clary earned a 3-0 victory in the No. 7 spot, defeating Charlotte Zonis 11-5, 11-2, and 11-9.
  • Cori Johnson '16 earned the Purple & White's final sweep of the day, claiming the match over Marina Hartnick with scores of 11-7, 11-3, and 11-5 on court No. 8. 
  • Rebecca Pol '16 claimed a 3-1 victory in the No. 9 spot, downing Katherine Bauer with scores of 11-5, 11-5, and 11-7.
