CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Haley McAtee '18 of the Amherst College women's squash team was named the Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the 2015 Women's National Team Championship Walker Cup (C Division) as recently announced by the College Squash Association (CSA).
Amherst entered the 2014-15 Walker Cup as the reigning champion and defended its crown thanks to a stellar performance from McAtee who excelled from the No. 3 court. McAtee defeated Wellesley's Meera Nayar in her quarterfinal match, and then bested Mikaela Johnson in the semifinals. Against Bowdoin's Virginia Ross, McAtee won a five-set thriller (11-5, 9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8) to help the Jeffs secure their second straight Walker Cup title.
The Purple & White capped off the 2014-15 campaign with a 13-6 record overall. Amherst reached the finals by defeating No. 24 Wellesley (9-0) in the quarterfinals, followed by a 6-3 win over No. 21 Colby in the semifinals. The Jeffs also defeated Bowdoin earlier this season by the same score. Last year, Amherst won the Walker Cup after defeating Franklin & Marshall, 6-3.
