Purple & White Repeats, Defeats Bowdoin in Walker Cup Finals!

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The 17th-ranked Amherst College women's squash team defended its crown in the Walker Cup (C Division) Sunday with a 6-3 win over No. 19 Bowdoin College at the WCSA National Team Championships on the campus of Harvard University.

The Jeffs capped off the 2014-15 campaign on a strong note and finished the season with a 13-6 record, while dropping the Polar Bears to 10-12 overall. Amherst reached the finals by defeating No. 24 Wellesley (9-0) in the first round Friday, followed by a 6-3 win over No. 21 Colby in the semifinals. The Purple & White also defeated Bowdoin earlier this season by the same score. Last year, the Jeffs won the title after defeating Franklin and Marshall, 6-3. 

In the 2015 finals, Haley McAtee '18 went back and forth with Virginia Ross on court No. 3 before ultimately claiming the match in five sets by scores of 11-5, 9-11, 11-9, 8-11 and 11-8.

Meyha Sud '16, Khushy Aggarwal '16 and Corri Johnson '16 came up big for the Purple & White in the bottom of the lineup as they each cruised to 3-0 victories on courts No. 7, 8 and 9, respectively.

In the middle of the lineup, Tiana Palmer-Poroner '17 and Taryn Clary '16 each needed four sets to win their matches. Palmer-Poroner claimed a win from the No. 4 spot, while Clary claimed the No. 6 position.

The Jeffs will resume action in two weeks at the CSA Individuals Tournament on the campus of Dartmouth College Friday, February 27th.
