Jeffs Best Wesleyan, 7-2, Fall to Williams, 9-0

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The 17th-ranked Amherst College women's squash team posted a 7-2 victory over No. 22 Wesleyan but fell, 9-0 to No. 12 Williams on Sunday at the Little Three Championships hosted by the Cardinals.

With the split, Amherst moves to 7-5 overall, Wesleyan stands at 5-10 on the season, and Williams improves to 12-6 overall.

Against Wesleyan, Amherst dropped both its matches from the top two positions but swept the Cardinals from the No. 3 court to the No. 9 court. Haley McAtee '18 lost the first two games from the No. 3 spot but won three straight (11-5, 11-6, 11-9) to claim the match. Ericka Robertson '16 claimed the first two games on the No. 5 court to take a decisive lead but two straight losses forced a decisive fifth set in which she won, 11-9. Taryn Clary '16 and Meyha Sud '16 both swept their opponents from the No. 6 and 7 courts, while Tiana Palmer-Poroner '17 and Corri Johnson '16 won their matches, 3-1. Palmer-Poroner claimed the No. 4 court and Johnson won in the No. 9 spot.

Against Williams, Robertson battled back from a two-set deficit to force a decisive fifth set on teh No. 5 court against the Ephs' Caroline Sawin but fell 11-3. Clary took the opening set against Ellen Coombe on the No. 6 court, before losing the next two. She then won the fourth set, 11-6 before being edged, 12-10 in the fifth frame. Sud and Charlotte Walsh played five sets in the No. 7 spot with Walsh clinching the fifth stanza, 11-6. On the No. 1 court, Kim Krayacich '18 fell in four sets to Nicole Friedman.  

Amherst returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at Mount Holyoke College.
