RESULTS

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Amherst College men's and women's squash teams competed at the three-day 2014 Division III Individual Tournament this weekend, hosted by Wesleyan University.

Competing for the 21st-ranked men's team was first-year Cameron Bahadori who picked up wins in the B draw over Carlos Ames of Bates (11-5, 11-4, 8-11, 11-8) and Max Bearse of Bowdoin (11-2, 11-3, 11-7) before falling to Caran Aorora of Bates in a five-set thriller (4-11, 11-6, 7-11, 13-11, 12-10). 

Senior tri-captain Alex Southmayd won the only match in the first round consolation bracket with scores of 3-11, 11-5, 11-2, 11-4.

On the women's side, first-year Kimberly Krayacich defeated Lesea Bourke of Bates (11-4, 11-5, 11-4) in the A draw but fell short in the next round to Leila Samy of Wesleyan (11-0, 12-10, 11-0). She eventually won the A draw second round consolation bracket with a victory over Hilary Gray of Hamilton in the final by scores of 11-3, 11-8, 11-6.

Arielle Lehman '15 advanced to the A draw consolation finals with wins over Ashley Arther of Conn. College (11-8, 11-5, 11-5) and Lauren Nelson of Wesleyan (11-7, 11-2, 11-5), but fell to Myriam Kelly of Bates (11-5, 11-9, 11-8).

Haley McAtee '18 won two matches in the women's B draw over Tatum LeClair of Wesleyan (11-2, 11-3, 11-4) and Sarah Fay of MIT (11-7, 11-4, 11-2), but dropped a four-set match to Ellen Coombe of Williams (6-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-6).

Tiana Palmer-Poroner '17 advanced to the third round of the B draw bracket with a win over Rhea Advani of Wellesley (11-7, 12-10, 11-4) but lost to Coombe (9-11, 11-9, 14-12, 12-10). She eventually claimed the B draw second round consolation bracket over Emma Dunn of Bates by scores of 8-11, 11-7, 4-11, 11-7, 11-9.

The men's team has a month break before returning to action Friday, Jan. 9 and will host Bowdoin at 2:30 p.m. The 18th-ranked women's squad will travel to Smith on Tuesday, Dec. 9 for a 6 p.m. match.
