Jeffs Suffer 9-0 Loss to 9th-Ranked Bates

AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College women's squash team suffered a 9-0 loss to Bates College Saturday afternoon, dropping the Lord Jeffs to 3-3 on the season.

The Bates women picked up 3-0 wins in the top four matches, as well as at numbers six and seven. Amherst sophomore Evelyn Kramer got off to a good start by defeating Samantha Matos '14 in the first game at number five, 11-7. Matos would come back to win the next three, however, by scores of 11-4, 11-3 and 13-11.

The bottom of Amherst's lineup was also upset-minded, as Mary Katherine McNeill '13 and Sarah Nyirjesy '13 won their first games at eight and nine, respectively. McNeill earned an 11-4 win over Ali Bragg '13 but would drop the next three games, 11-1, 11-7 and 11-8.

Nyirjesy put up a good fight in the ninth slot, as she began her match by taking the first game from Lesea Bourke '15, 11-7. The remaining games were competitive but would all go the Bobcats' way, as Bourke earned wins of 11-8, 11-8 and 11-6.

The Lord Jeffs will look to get back on track when they travel to take on 11th-ranked Brown University on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
