Women's Squash Splits With Wesleyan, Williams at Little III Championships

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - After scoring a decisive 8-1 win over #20 Wesleyan, the 17th-ranked Amherst women's squash team dropped a 9-0 decision to #11 Williams to wrap up play at the Little III Championships.

In the first match of the day, Wesleyan's Mary Foster '14 handed Arielle Lehman '15 (Greenwich, Conn.) a 3-1 (11-8, 11-3, 4-11, 11-5) loss for the Cardinals' lone point of the afternoon. Kate Savage '12 (Philadelphia, Pa.) dropped the first game of her second position matchup before taking three-straight from Lauren Nelson '15 to put Amherst on the board.

Chandler Lusardi '13 (New York, N.Y.) swept Annie Maxwell '15 in the third spot before Evelyn Kramer '14 (Brooklyn, N.Y.) outlasted junior Tanesha Jackson 3-2 (11-9, 6-11, 14-16, 11-6, 11-4) in what proved to be the day's closest match.

Anna Scheidt '12 (Fort Lee, N.J.) won a closely contested, 3-1 (11-3, 9-11, 12-10, 14-12), showdown with Grace Zimmerman '13 in the fifth slot, while Sarah Nyirjesy '13 (Rydal, Pa.) dealt Nell Schwed '14 a 3-1 loss.

Amherst's Lena Rice '14 (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Mary Katherine McNeill '13 (Greenwich, Conn.) gave the Jeffs a boost at the bottom of the order, taking three in a row from their Wesleyan counterparts in the seventh and eighth positions, while Ginny Wheeler '13 (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) defeated first-year Hannah Jenkins, 3-1 (11-6, 11-7, 15-17, 11-9).

In the nightcap, Williams won 25 of the match's 27 games en route to a 9-0 win. Courtney Bogle '12 got the Ephs off to a fast start at the top of the lineup with a 3-0 decision over Lehman before Alison Rubin '13 took three-straight from Savage in the second slot.

Lusardi won the first game of her match with Laura Henry '13 before dropping three in a row by scores of 11-4, 11-2 and 11-7. Kramer recorded the Jeffs' only other win in a 3-1 loss to Alyssa Northrop '14 in the fourth position.

Amherst will next compete at the NESCAC Championship hosted by Trinity on Feb. 3-5.
