Women's Squash Upends Colby, 8-1

AMHERST, Mass. - The 15th-ranked Amherst women's squash team captured its fourth-straight victory by closing out play at the 2011-12 Pioneer Valley Invitational with a decisive 8-1 win over #22 Colby.

Colby's Kate Pistel '13 earned the Mules' lone point of the day, upending Kate Savage '12 (Philadelphia, Pa.), 3-0 (11-1, 11-6, 12-10), at the top of the order. After squandering a 2-0 lead in the second spot, Amherst's Arielle Lehman '15 (Greenwich, Conn.) rebounded in the fifth and final game, cruising to an 11-2 triumph to seal the Jeffs' first point of the morning.

Chandler Lusardi '13 (New York, N.Y.) kept things rolling with a 3-1 (12-10, 11-13, 11-8, 11-7) victory over Lindsey McKenna '14 in the third position, while Evelyn Kramer '14 (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Anna Scheidt '12 (Fort Lee, N.J.) earned 3-0 sweeps over their Colby counterparts in the fourth and fifth slots.

Amherst's Lena Rice '14 (Philadelphia, Pa.) rallied from an 11-9 loss in the first game, taking three straight against Liz Brehman '15, while Mary Katherine McNeill '13 (Greenwich, Conn.), Sarah Nyirjesy '13 (Rydal, Pa.) and Megan Clower '12 (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) secured 3-0 victories at the bottom of the lineup.

The Lord Jeffs return to action on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Little III Championships hosted by Wesleyan University.
