  • Harmeling, Shannon Reach Consolation Quarterfinals at CSA Women's Squash Individual Championships

    Amherst College junior Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) reached the consolation quarterfinals of the Ramsay Cup, for the top 36 nationally ranked players, while first-year Caroline Shannon (Hanover, NH) reached the consolation quarterfinals of the Holleran Cup, for players ranked 37th through 72nd, at the 2004 Women’s College Squash Association Championships, hosted by St. Lawrence University on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

    The 11th-ranked Amherst College women’s squash team finished 10th at the Howe Cup Nationals, hosted by Yale University over the weekend. Playing in the Kurtz Cup for teams ranked ninth through 16th nationally, the Jeffs blanked Vassar College 9-0 and edged Cornell University 5-4 on Saturday before falling to No. 9 Bates College 5-4 in the finals.

    The 10th-ranked Amherst College women’s squash team blanked visiting Mt. Holyoke College 9-0 on Tuesday night. Junior Ali Gibbs (Greenwich, CT) and first-year Emily Zandy (Hamden, CT) posted impressive victories, winning 9-0, 9-3, 9-0 and 9-0, 9-1, 9-0, respectively. The Jeffs relinquished just two games in the match as they improved to 14-6.
