KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Amherst women's soccer seniors Sloan Askins '20 and Bella Palma '20, as well as sophomore forward Alexa Juarez '22, have been named to the 2019 United Soccer Coaches Division III All-New England team, as announced by the organization Monday afternoon.
The all-region teams are selected through voting by member coaches in those respective divisions.
Palma makes her second appearance on the all-region ballot after garnering first team recognition last season. A two-time All-NESCAC selection, Palma has been a mainstay in the backline for the Mammoths that boasted 15 shutouts and only allowed seven goals through 20 games played. Helping shutout all three opponents in the NESCAC tournament, Palma led a defensive effort that limited their opponents to five shots on goal combined on conference championship weekend.
Joining the list of honorees and making her first appearance on the all-region list, Askins contributed to the defensive and offensive production throughout the season, lending two goals and three assists. Adding to a shutout percentage that is good for 6th in the nation and first in conference (0.750), Askins earned second team all-conference and notched a season-high four points in a 4-1 victory over Trinity (Conn.), scoring once and assisting in two goals.
Juarez, who was among league leaders in three of the four major offensive categories, finalized the season in a four-way tie for first in goals (10) and tied for fourth in points (22). The Hawthorn Woods, Ill. native also led the conference in shots (79) and was named First Team All-NESCAC with three game-winners on the 2019 tab. Juarez, a 2018 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, makes her first appearance on the all-region ballot.
The Mammoths, who clinched their fifth NESCAC title in a 1-0 triumph over Middlebury, finished the season with a record of 15-4-1 and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in the last seven seasons.
All-America Teams for all three divisions will be announced on Thursday evening, Dec. 5, in conjunction with their respective pre-championship banquets.
