AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 14 Amherst women's soccer team (13-2-2) were tabbed as the Regional hosts for this year's NCAA tournament, lining them up against Lesley University (16-4) in the first round of play at Hitchcock Field on Saturday starting at 11:00 AM.

The second NCAA First Round matchup on Saturday will feature No. 21 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (16-2-3) who will face off against Vassar College (9-7-1) at 1:30 PM

$6 general admission tickets for the NCAA First and Second Round contests will be available at the door, while students with ID get in for free!


  • Amherst received an at-large bid and Regional host responsibilities as they enter the programs 17th national post season appearance after compiling an overall record of 13-2-2 this year.
  • Lesley University received the automatic bid from the New England Collegiate Conference Championship (NECC) when they defeated New England College 3-2.
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) also enters this tournament as an automatic qualifier from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) when they took down Springfield College in a 2-1 overtime finish.
  • Vassar received an at-large bid after compiling a record of 9-7-1 this season. The Brewers were able to mark five conference wins on the year, but saw an early exit in the Liberty League Championship.


Receiving an at-large bid and Regional host obligations, the Amherst women's soccer team is set to make their return to the NCAA Tournament after missing last season's bid. Prior to the 2017 season, the Mammoths maintained a streak of six-consecutive NCAA appearances. The Purple & White have accumulated an overall NCAA Championship record of 28-11-5, going 11-1-0 in First Round play.

The second matchup of the first round consists of the second-ever meeting between MIT and Vassar. Both teams met once before at the Engineering Cup in 2016 during their regular season, thus, marking the first NCAA competition between the two institutions.


The winner of Saturday's NCAA First Round clash between Amherst and Lesley will advance to the NCAA Second Round and face MIT/Vassar on Sunday, November 11th at Hitchcock Field beginning at 1:00 PM.


13-2-2 Overall – Schedule/Roster/Stats

  • Rubii Tamen '19 lead the NESCAC with 14 goals for 28 points on the year, adding to her third consecutive 20+ point season.
  • Following Tamen, Alexa Juarez '22 adds to the attack with seven goals and six assists for 20 points on her rookie campaign.
  • Antonia Tammaro '21 anchors the defense with a 0.41 goals against average and tabbed 39 saves in 13 matches played.


16-4 Overall – Schedule/Roster/Stats

  • Seniors Samantha Bessey and Jordan Mitchell lead the Lynx with nine goals each while Mitchell notching four assists to total her points at 22 on the season.
  • Xaelel Allen-Caballero follows behind the duo and lends six goals and three assists to the attack this year.
  • In between the pipes, Brittley Gaan has started 11 games for Lesley, amassing a 0.50 goals against average and 22 saves.


16-2-3 Overall – Schedule/Roster/Stats

  • Sophia Struckman leads MIT in scoring and enters Saturdays matchup with 14 goals for 28 points on her Junior season.
  • First-year Karenna Groff added 12 goals and five assists on the season, almost eclipsing 30 points on the season.
  • Lily Mueller posts a 0.85 goals against average through 21 starts, accumulating 62 saves so far in the 2018 season.


9-7-1 Overall – Schedule/Roster/Stats

  • Emma Tanner takes the field on Saturday leading the Vassar attack with six goals.
  • Rebecca Andrews added nine points in 15 games played (four goals, one assist).
  • Fiona Walsh has started  in net 15 out of her 16 games played, recording 81 saves and a 1.25 goals against average.
