Jeffs Post Third Straight Shutout, Blank Conn. College, 3-0

NEW LONDON, CT - The Amherst College women's soccer team posted its third straight shutout on Wednesday, blanking NESCAC host Connecticut College, 3-0. Three different players found the net for the Jeffs, while junior goalkeeper Piper Crowell (Rafael, CA) needed just one save to secure her third shutout of the season.

Junior forward Amy Armstrong (Avon, CT) opened the scoring for the Jeffs at the 28:04-mark of the first half off a feed from classmate Lesley Pruzansky (Saratoga, CA). Camel senior goalkeeper Kate Simmons (Altamont, NY) kept the game close heading into the break, but Amherst turned up the heat in the second stanza as sophomore midfielder Heather Nowak (New Haven, CT) added an insurance tally, in unassisted fashion, at 58:52, and rookie striker Stephanie Yesnik (Arlington, VA) capped the Jeffs' scoring at the 74:42-mark off a dish from Armstrong.

Simmons finished with eight saves for Conn. , who fell to 3-6-1 (1-5 NESCAC) on the season, while the Jeffs improved to 5-3-2 (3-2-1 NESCAC) and sit in fourth place in the conference with three games remaining.

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m. against visiting NESCAC rival Wesleyan University.
