Jeffs Suffer First Loss of Season, Fall at Tufts, 3-1

Medford, MA - The Amherst College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, falling at NESCAC rival Tufts University, 3-1. Amherst junior midfielder Lesley Pruzansky (Saratoga, CA) tallied the lone goal for the Jeffs, who fell to 3-1-1 (2-1 NESCAC), while Tufts improved to 3-1 (2-1 NESCAC).

Amherst opened the scoring at the 12-minute-mark as Pruzansky chipped a ball toward the goal which was deflected in by a Jumbo defender. Tufts responded just four minutes later when sophomore Lauren Fedore (East Lansing, MI) deposited the ball in the back of the net off a feed from senior Sarah Callaghan (Northborough, MA). The Jeffs pressured for the rest of the half, but could not find the net and the score remained knotted at the break.

Tufts sophomore Martha Furtek (East Falmouth, MA) tallied the eventual game-winner for the Jumbos at the 69-minute-mark, turning on the ball at the top of the eighteen-yard-box and firing a shot past Jeff junior goalkeeper Piper Crowell (San Rafael, CA). Callaghan added an insurance score for the Jumbos two minutes later on a penalty kick.

Crowell tallied two saves, while Tufts junior netminder Annie Ross (Newton, MA) needed just one save to seal the victory.

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against visiting 22nd-ranked non-conference foe Wheaton College.
