AMHERST, MA – Amherst College senior defender Margaret Chute (Pawtucket, RI/Wheeler) was tabbed Second-Team All-New England by the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) on Monday. Having already been named National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas First-Team All-Region, First-Team All-NESCAC and Third-Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District, Chute's latest award caps a prolific collegiate career.
Chute transitioned from forward to defense in her sophomore campaign, and has since played an vital role the development of one of the region's best defensive units. In her three-year defensive tenure, she has helped Amherst to an outstanding 23 shutouts and guided the Jeffs to a national 16th-best 0.56 goals per game allowed average in 2004. This season she anchored a defense that allowed only 10 goals in 14 games and shutout four NESCAC opponents. She also posted the game-tying goal with less than two minutes remaining in Amherst's early season match-up against Eastern Connecticut State University.
