S. HADLEY, MA - The Amherst College women's soccer team tallied a trio of first-half scores en route to a 4-0 shutout victory over non-conference host Mt. Holyoke College on Thursday afternoon. Junior midfielder Lesley Pruzansky (Saratoga, CA) led the charge, notching a goal and two assists as the Jeffs outshot the Lyons 30-1 and improved to 4-3-1.
Pruzansky had a hand in Amherst's first two scores, sending crossing passes to classmate Jenny Muller (Andover, MA) and rookie Alanna Darling (Charlton, MA), respectively, who hammered home headers to give the Jeffs a 2-0 early edge. Senior co-captain Sarah Coleman (New Haven, CT) pushed the lead to 3-0 late in the opening frame, winning a ball in the deep right corner and loosing a left-footed laser that deflected off the hands of Mt. Holyoke senior goalkeeper Tiffany Picard (Belmont, NH) and trickled into the net. Pruzansky scored the Jeffs' final goal early in the second half, taking a ball from first-year defender Kathryn Bentley (Atherton, CA) all the way up the right sideline and firing a rocket past Picard.
Junior Piper Crowell (San Rafael, CA) and senior Scout Durwood (Shawnee Mission, KS) combined for their second shutout of the year in goal as Crowell didn't field a first-half shot on net and Durwood picked up a save on Mt. Holyoke's only shot of the game. Picard finished with 15 saves for the Lyons, which dropped to 4-7 with the loss.
The Jeffs return to action Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at NESCAC rival Colby College.
