Waxter Named Assistant Women’s Lacrosse Coach

AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College Department of Athletics and head women's lacrosse coach Chris Paradis announced the hiring of Maggie Waxter as an assistant coach for the women's lacrosse program.

"Maggie is an amazing addition to our staff. She is both enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and has already brought incredible ideas to the table as we plan for our season. I am thrilled that she has joined our staff and chose to start her coaching career at Amherst," commented Paradis. "Having played at Washington & Lee, she led her team to the Final Four last spring as a senior and was coached by former Amherst All-American Brooke Diamond.  Maggie is perfect fit for our staff and program."

A 2017 graduate of Washington & Lee University with a bachelor's degree in psychology, Waxter joins the Mammoths program after a praise-worthy career for the Generals in which she captained the lacrosse and field hockey teams during her senior seasons. Starting every contest in her final two seasons for the Generals women's lacrosse team and appearing in 74 games overall, Waxter racked up 31 goals and dished out 12 assists to total 43 points as a skilled midfielder while leading WLU to four consecutive ODAC league titles.

"On the field, Maggie will be an exceptional coach and mentor at both ends of the field.  As a player, she was an All-Conference honoree and most importantly a total "team player" and brings that same selflessness and commitment to our players, staff and program – she will be a huge motivator for our athletes!" continued Paradis. "She has sound knowledge technically and strategically, and this will be key as we move into a season with young players and many rule changes.  We are all excited and welcome Maggie to our lacrosse family!"

Off the field, Waxter was a member of Washington & Lee's University Athletic Council, Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Generals Leadership Academy.  She also served as an assistant coach to the Amherst College field hockey team in the fall.

Commenting on her first season on the Amherst sidelines, Waxter noted, "I am so excited for the opportunity to join the Amherst women's lacrosse program. Amherst College is an amazing place to begin my coaching career. I have learned so much from Coach Paradis and Coach Moore in the first couple of weeks of being here. I am so thrilled for the new rules of the game and excited to add new ideas and help carry on traditions. After being coached by Brooke O'Brien an Amherst grad it is so fun to see the similarities between the two coaches. The 2018 season is going to be filled with lots of excitement and I can't wait for it to get started."

The Mammoths kick off the 2018 season on Saturday, March 3, when they travel to Colby College for a 3 p.m. battle.
