Jeffs Use Balanced Scoring Attack in 16-2 Win at Wheaton

NORTON, MA – The 18th-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team geared up for a big weekend by cruising to a 16-2 win over Wheaton College Thursday evening at Keefe Field. The Lord Jeffs improve to 5-3, while the Lyons drop to 4-6. 

Amherst put forward a balanced scoring attack, with junior Allie Horwitz (Woodbridge, CT) scoring four goals to lead the way. First-year Annelies O'Dea (Pittsford, NY) turned in a hat trick, senior Kelley Trapp (Monterey, CA) had two goals and two assists, and three other Lord Jeffs had two goals apiece. First-year MC McClellan (Denver, CO) was credited with five stops and earned the win by playing the first 44:25 in net. 

Senior Tess Meyer and first-year Charlotte DeSantis each scored for the hosts, while junior Hailey Colburn recorded an assist. Senior Marianna Marcellino and sophomore Stephanie Hoomis made four saves apiece, with Marcellino taking the loss. 
The Lord Jeffs scored the game's first six goals and 15 of the initial 16 tallies, with Trapp picking up the winner 1:38 in. Meyer's goal at the 15:32 mark of the first half made the score 6-1 before the visitors scored the stanza's final three for a 9-1 advantage at the intermission.  

After Amherst began the second half on a 6-0 run, DeSantis converted a Colburn pass at 2:52. The Lord Jeffs' final tally came from Elizabeth Ludlow '14 (Huntington, NY) at the buzzer. 
The Lord Jeffs will return to action Saturday when they host Williams College at noon.
