Jeffs Pick Up 13-7 Win at Conn. College

NEW LONDON, CT – The Amherst College women's lacrosse team moved to 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in NESCAC play with an impressive 13-7 win at Connecticut College this afternoon. Sophomore Amy Craig (Denver, CO) scored five goals for the second straight game, and the third time in the last four contests.

The Lord Jeffs took a 5-1 lead into halftime by carrying momentum off a come-from-behind victory at Springfield on Thursday night. Amherst continued high-pressure on offense in the beginning of the second half, stretching the lead to a game-high nine goals at 10-1 with 19 minutes remaining in the game.

Conn. College would not give up and turned the second half of the game into a battle of scoring runs. The Camels answered with a trio of goals to cut the lead to 10-4, with around 15 minutes showing on the clock.

Amherst responded with three unanswered goals to bring the lead back to 13-4 with just eight minutes in regulation. A number of younger players were able to get some valuable minutes for Amherst and held off a final Camel charge for the 13-7 win.

Senior Alyssa Briody (Hopewell, NJ) recorded a hat-trick for Amherst, but the young Craig would steal the show once again. The outstanding game will make a great case for conference Player of the Week honors, and brings the sophomore's season totals to 20 goals in just 6 games, an 17 goals in the last 4 contests.

Junior Linda McEvoy (Rochester, NY) made 10 saves in net for the Jeffs, picking up the win. Amherst returns to action when its hosts Trinity on Wednesday, April 4 for a 4:30 game at Hitchcock Fields.
