AMHERST, MA - The third-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team edged visiting NESCAC and Little Three foe Williams College, 9-7, Saturday at Hitchcock Field. Junior midfielders Mary Kate Allen (Springfield, MA) and sophomore Jackie Sargent (Concord, MA) led the charge for the Jeffs, each tallying a trio of goals. Junior attacker and NESCAC Player of the Week Abby Ouimet (Hatfield, MA) also racked up four assists.
Williams jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. First-year attackers Amy Wicker (New Canaan, CT), sophomore Molly Jennings (Greenwich, CT) and junior midfielder Stefanie Noering (Cohasset, MA) all scored for the Ephs. The Jeffs then countered with a trio of goals to even the score at 3-3. Junior attacker Erin Beaumont (Summit, NJ) tallied the first of her two goals on the day, while Sargent tallied the next pair, all off of feeds from Ouimet.
The Jeffs led midway through the first half until Jennings notched her third goal to even the score at 5-5 heading into halftime. Amherst came out of the break and Allen then tallied all three of her goals in the second stanza. She scored the game-winner with less than four minutes remaining and tacked on an insurance goal moments later.
Junior goaltender Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, MA) was stellar in net for the hosts, finishing with 11 saves. With the victory, Amherst improves to 10-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The second-seeded Jeffs return to action Sunday at 11 a.m., hosting a first round game of the NESCAC Championship Tournament against visiting seventh-seeded Trinity College.
