Third-Ranked Women's Lax Pounds Bates, 19-6

LEWISTON, ME - After edging host Bowdoin College yesterday the Amherst College women's lacrosse team returned to action and pounded Bates College, 19-6, on Sunday. Junior attacker Abby Ouimet (Hatfield, MA) notched a game-high eight goals and sophomore midfielder Liz Martin (Baltimore, MD) tallied six to pace the Jeffs. Sophomore attacker Allison Aldrich (Cornwall, VT) also chipped in with a pair of goals and an assist. 

The Bobcats pierced the scoring column less than three minutes in to take an early 1-0 lead. Amherst quickly countered with the next two goals of the game and led 6-3 at the half. Bates tallied the first goal of the second half, but the visitors answered with six straight goals, extending their lead to 12-4. 

Bates sophomore attacker Becky Castle (Stonington, CT) tallied a pair of goals to pace the hosts. Amherst junior Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, MA) and first-year Olivia D'Ambrosio (Farmington, CT) combined to stop nine Bobcat shots, while Jen Strahle and Lindsay Gary also recorded nine saves for Bates. 

With the victory, Amherst improves to 9-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play, while the Bobcats drop to 7-4 and 3-4. The Jeffs return to action Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against visiting NESCAC foe Tufts University.
