Third-Ranked Women's Lax Edges Bowdoin, 9-8

BRUNSWICK, ME - The third-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team edged host Bowdoin College, 9-8, Saturday afternoon. Junior Abby Ouimet paced the visitors with a pair of goals and a trio of assists. With the victory, Amherst improves to 8-1 overall, while the Polar Bears drop to 7-4. 

Amherst dominated play early, taking a 6-2 lead on Ouimet's second goal of the day at 14:35 of the first half. Mary Kate Allen also tallied a pair of goals to put Bowdoin in an early hole. The hosts rallied to score four of the half's final five goals, cutting the lead to 7-6 at the break. Allison Aldrich scored to put the Jeffs up 8-6 before Kristi Perine's second goal of the contest cut the lead to one goal again at 18:21. The Jeffs responded at 13:13 on a tally by Laura Schifter to take a 9-7 edge, before the Polar Bears closed out the scoring at 7:17 when Elsbeth Prett drew the contest within one at 9-8. Bowdoin could not muster another goal however, as the Jeffs held for the victory. 

Brooke Diamond was stellar in net for Amherst, stopping 13 shots in the win. Julia McCombs made seven saves in net for Bowdoin.
