Third-Ranked Women's Lax Steamrolls Wellesley, 17-5

WELLESLEY, MA - Sophomore Liz Martin scored six goals as the No. 3-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team rolled past host Wellesley College, 17-5, in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon. 

Amherst, which never trailed in the game, opened up a 10-1 lead at the half. Junior Abby Ouimet added three goals and three assists for the Jeffs, while Erin Beaumont, Jackie Sargent and Mary Kate Allen each registered two. Allen added an assist, while Laura Schifter finished with two goals and two assists. 

Junior Claudia Veritas paced Wellesley offensively with two goals and an assist, while sophomore Laura Bender added two. Junior Grace Tsan rounded out the scoring with a goal and an assist. 

Amherst goalkeeper Brooke Diamond made seven saves for the Jeffs, while Ashleigh Korves stopped nine shots for Wellesley. 

Wellesley (4-3 overall, 3-0 NEWMAC) hosts Smith Saturday at 1 p.m. in a NEWMAC game, while Amherst (6-1 overall, 3-1 NESCAC) travels to Wesleyan for a 2:30 p.m. contest.
