LEWISTON, ME - The second-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team downed #17 Colby College, 14-9, at Bates College in their NESCAC opener Saturday afternoon. The Jeffs led wire to wire as junior attacker Abby Ouimet (Hatfield, MA) paced Amherst with seven points on a pair of goals and five assists. Sophomore midfielder Liz Martin (Baltimore, MD) also tacked on five goals.

Amherst drew first blood when Martin took a feed from Ouimet and fired a shot into the back of the net. Four more players would also score goals in the opening half, giving the Jeffs a 7-4 advantage at the break. Martin and Ouimet connected again to open the second half and extend the lead. The White Mules drew closer but were unable to catch the Jeffs, who rounded out the scoring with a trio of unassisted goals by junior attack Laura Schifter (Washington, D.C), Martin and Ouimet.

Amherst junior goaltender Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, MA) finished with 13 saves. With the victory, the Jeffs improve to 3-0/1-0 while the White Mules drop to 1-3/0-3. Also of note, fourth-ranked Williams lost to unranked Bates in an earlier game. The Jeffs return to action at NESCAC foe Trinity at 4:30 p.m.
