- AMHERST, Massachusetts -- It was senior day at Pratt Field, and Jen Corso '99 (Collingswood, NJ) made sure the visiting women from Wellesley College knew all about it. In her final game before a home crowd, Corso notched a career day and helped Amherst blow out their fourth consecutive opponent. While Corso tallied a team-high 5 goals, the Lord Jeffs scored more than 15 goals for the fourth straight game and are averaging 18.5 goals per game over that stretch. At 8-2, with one of the losses coming by way of a tightly contested 11-8 showdown with top-ranked Middlebury, the Jeffs are in prime position to nab their first NCAA Tournament bid since 1996.
- This afternoon's opponent , Wellesley, was no slouch, either. Coming into today's game with a 10-2 record that includes a 6-0 mark in NEWMAC Conference play, Wellesley was looking to keep it close with Amherst. Wellesley had no answer for the offensive balance offered by the high-flying Lord Jeffs. In addition to Corso's big day, junior Katherine Poulin (St. David's, PA) kept up her torrid scoring pace, adding 4 goals and 3 assists. In the last three games, Poulin has been on fire, scoring 12 goals and assisting on 5 others. WOW!!! Team scoring leader Kristen Osborn '01 (Morristown, NJ) got her usual 3 goals while senior Eliza Meade (Newton, MA) added 2 scores. Goalie Jess Thaxton recorded 8 saves on the day. Amherst faces national powerhouse Trinity this Saturday at 12:00 in Hartford.
