Amherst Slashes Springfield, 20-6

Six players score 2 or more goals for high-flying Jeffs

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Amherst College sported six different players scoring two or more goals and twelve different players scored in all as they put 20 goals on the board in a women's lacrosse victory over Springfield College Tuesday afternoon at Pratt Field. Sophomore scoring leader Kristen Osborn (Morristown, NJ) notched three goals and two assists while fellow sophomore Sarah Scheessele (Pittsburgh, PA) put another three goals past the Pride goalkeeper.
Amherst put the pressure on Springfield right from the first face-off. The Jeffs led by a 13-1 margin at the end of the first-half and allowed many of their younger players to see extended action in the second frame. The youngsters responded well, outscoring the Pride 7-5 before the final gun sounded. Freshman attack Meghan Martin (Longmeadow, MA) tallied two goals as did fellow frosh Anne Close (Limekiln, PA). Amherst goalkeeper Jessica Thaxton was only forced to make four saves on the afternoon due to Amherst's offensive zone domination. The win extends Amherst's winning streak to four games and improves their 1999 season record to a still perfect 4-0. Perfection is the mission Amherst coach Chris Paradis wants her team to grasp, and this talented and driven Jeff squad just may have what it takes to achieve her vision.
The women hit the field again this weekend, taking on the Connecticut College Camels at home on Saturday afternoon at 2:00
