Amherst Goes 3-0 With Trouncing of Smith

Sophomore Kristen Osborn tallies 4 goals and 3 assists in win

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Twelve goals were scored by four players for the Amherst College Lord Jeffs as they dominated the Smith College Pioneers in a 16-5 win at Pratt Field this afternoon. Led by sophomore Kristen Osborn (Morristown, NJ), who tallied 4 goals and 3 assists (9 goals thus far in just 3 games), Amherst overcame a special zone defense set up by the Pioneers in an attempt to slow the high-powered Jeffs. Senior Tri-Captain Irene Permut (Wilmington, DE) scored 3 goals and 1 assist, junior Alie Stechenberg (Longmeadow, MA) exploded for 3 goals, and senior Eliza Meade (Newton, MA) added 2 goals of her own. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Thaxton (Wayland, MA) recorded 5 saves as the Lord Jeff defense stymied the Smith offense, allowing just 10 shots on goal. On the flip-side, the high-octane Amherst attack launched 27 shots on the Pioneer net and finished the day with a connection percentage of over 50 percent.
With the win, the Lord Jeffs improve to 3-0 after two big wins during Spring Break in Panama City, Florida over powerful rivals Gettysburg College and Drew University. Amherst hits the field again next Tuesday afternoon at Pratt Field versus Springfield College (4:00 p.m.)
