Amherst Defeats Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Connecticut -- Junior Heidi Cline (Andover, MA) scored four goals to lead Amherst College to a 12-6 win over Connecticut College in women's lacrosse this afternoon at Connecticut College.

Cline scored two of her four goals in the first half to help Amherst (4-2) build a 5-1 lead at the half. Sophomore Alie Stechenberg (Longmeadow, MA) helped Amherst increase its lead to 6-1 on her second of three goals on the day with 25:07 remaining.

Conn (2-3), however, rallied to score five of the next six goals and when sophomore Meghan Welch (Framingham, MA) scored her third goal of the afternoon the Camels trailed 7-6 with 10:57 to play.

Junior Jen Corso (Collingsworth, NJ) and Cline then realed off back-to-back goals in a span of 1:20 to give Amherst a 9-6 lead with 9:27 to play. The Amherst defense, which limited the Camels to 13 shots, held Conn scoreless for the final 10:57 in prevailing 12-6. The Lord Jeffs managed 27 shots on goal.

Amanda Baltzley (Sherborn, MA), making her first start of the season for Conn, had 20 saves while Sarah Evans (Columbus, OH) had seven stops for Amherst.
