RYE, N.Y. – Four different players tallied a score and the Mammoths found nylon three times in the second period as the No. 8 Amherst College women's ice hockey team shut out Manhattanville College, 4-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Playland Ice Casino.
With the win, Amherst improves to 1-2-0 on the season, while Manhattanville falls to 2-3-0 overall. Amherst returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 26 when they host New England College in their home opener at Orr Rink beginning at 3 p.m.
Taking a 1-0 lead midway through the opening period, Emma Griese '18 notched her first score of the winter and what stood as the game-winner on the power play. Setting up in front of the net, Griese tipped Miriam Eickhoff's '19 shot from the point into the bottom right corner of the goal.
Jocelyn Hunyadi '19 double the Mammoth lead 3:49 into the second period following a penalty by the Valiants. Dishing a cross ice pass to the left side, Alex Toupal '18 found Katelyn Pantera '19 on the post who one-timed the puck to Hunyadi on the far side for the uncontested score.
Extending Amherst's lead less than a minute later, Mia DelRosso '21 made it 3-0 in a stellar individual effort that saw the first-year skate the length of the ice and collect her own rebound before roofing a shot top-shelf over the keepers left shoulder.
Emma Flynn '21 rounded out the scoring for the Mammoths, as she gave Amherst a 4-0 cushion at the 15:19 mark. Collecting her second assist of the game on the play, Toupal sent a hard pass to Flynn in front of the net who redirected the puck over the goal line.
- Bailey Plaman '19 (1-1-0) registered 34 saves in the winning effort in between the pipes for the Mammoths, while Taylor Elias (1-1-0) made 41 stops in the loss for Manhattanville.
- Amherst owned a 45-34 advantage in shot differential, and finished 2-for-3 on the power play, while the Valiants went 0-for-5 up a skater.
