AMHERST, Mass. – Four different Purple & White skaters found the back of the net as the No. 6/5 Amherst women's ice hockey team downed NESCAC rival Colby College, 4-1 Friday evening at Orr Rink.

Colby (5-8-3, 3-5-1 NESCAC)
Amherst (10-1-3, 6-1-2 NESCAC)

  • The Mules sustained early offensive pressure, but it was Amherst who was first to make their presence felt on the scoreboard. Stopping the puck on the right point, Caroline Bomstein '16 sent a quick shot on target that beat the Colby net minder at the 10:28 mark.
  • Just over five minutes later, Megan Fortier evened the score at 1-1. Intercepting a pass in front of the net, Fortier ripped a shot from point blank range over the right shoulder of Bailey Plaman '18.
  • Senior captain Erin Martin regained the lead for Amherst with 4:27 to play in the first stanza. Up to the task, Mule goalkeeper Angelica Crites made the initial pad save on a shot from Caitlyn Ryan '17 from the point, however Martin corralled the rebound and tallied her team-leading 10th goal of the season.
  • The Purple & White added an insurance tally at the 8:50 mark in the second period as Emma Griese '18 tapped her third goal of the year over the goal line in a second effort play.
  • Katie McLaughlin had Colby's best opportunity of the third, collecting a pass in the neutral zone, skating down the right boards and putting a hard shot on net at the 4:50 mark, but Plaman was there to make the stop.
  • Jocelyn Hunyadi notched the game's final goal 5:28 into the final stanza, stealing the puck from a defender at the offensive blue line and rifling a shot into the bottom left corner of the net from the top of the circle.
  • Angelica Crites made 34 saves in the loss, while Plaman registered 11 saves en route to her second victory of the season.

  • Amherst and Colby face off again tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 23 at Orr Rink beginning at 3 p.m.
