Jeffs Skate Past Colby, 3-1

WATERVILLE, Maine. – The No. 9/6 Amherst College women's hockey team had three different players score in a 3-1 victory over NESCAC rival Colby College on Friday evening in Waterville, Maine.

With the win, Amherst improves to 9-1-1 overall, 5-0-0 in NESCAC action and has now won four straight games. Colby moves to 5-5-0 on the season, 0-5-0 in conference play. The Jeffs and Mules will square off again on Saturday, Jan. 10 in Waterville at 3 p.m.

Amherst drew first blood in quick fashion as Emily Flom '15 netted a goal just 2:27 into the first period on assists from Erin Martin '16 and Brenna Sullivan '18. Later in the frame, Martin scored what stood as the game-winner at the 14:58 mark after receiving assists from Flom and Sullivan to give the Jeffs a 2-0 lead.

Less than three minutes into the second stanza, the Purple & White pushed its advantage to 3-0 when Caitlyn Ryan '17 scored her third marker of the season. Emma Griese '18 and senior assistant captain Tori Salmon provided the helpers on the tally.

At the 16:07 mark of the third period, Megan Fortier pulled one back for Colby, scoring her second goal of the season as Lauren Guarente and Katie McLaughlin set up the goal to set the final score at 3-1.

Amherst fired nine shots on goal in all three periods, and held a 27-16 shot differential for the contest. Neither team had a power play opportunity.

Yuna Evans '17 (5-1-0) made 15 saves in the winning effort for Amherst, while Angelica Crites (2-3-0) made 24 saves in the loss for the Mules.
