CLINTON, N.Y. – Forward Erin Martin '16 scored what stood as the game-winning goal 8:22 into the third stanza to break a scoreless tie and give the Amherst women's hockey team a 1-0 victory over Hamilton College in Sunday afternoon's NESCAC contest.

Amherst held a 32-18 shot advantage in the contest, including a 14-2 differential in the second period. The Jeffs' penalty kill unit held Hamilton scoreless on the power play (0-for-3), and took advantage of the Continentals' third penalty of the game when Martin scored with 20 seconds left on the man advantage. Lynndy Smith '17 and Tori Salmon '15 assisted on the goal 8:11 into the third frame that gave the Purple & White a 1-0 lead.
Hamilton had two power play opportunities in the first period, and Amherst had a two in the second period but neither team was able to convert its chances. Following the Jeffs' conversion in the third, The Continentals failed to deliver on its chance midway through the frame.
Yuna Evans '17 made 18 saves in the winning effort including nine in the opening period, while Sarah Schuchardt recorded 31 saves in the loss for Hamilton.
The Jeffs return to action on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21-22 when it hosts Wesleyan University in a pair of NESCAC tilts. Friday's game is set for 7 p.m. with puck drop on Saturday slated for 3 p.m. Both games will take place at Orr Rink.
